  • Near Silver Lake, New Hampshire, once again for our 3rd annual Joy Farm Writer’s Salon. Thank you Liza Mattison, the Mattisons, and e. e. cummings’ for the welcome and wonderful space to face down the blank pages. It’s more than that, though. It’s a community of writers who love words and conversation and this place. It’s the cool air and turning leaves and laughter. It’s the quiet and the four foot fires. It’s the homegrown food and cocktail hours and dinner conversations. It’s the vista of White Mountains and Northernness. It’s the professors who have become friends and the wisdom that abounds. I imagine us old one day, meeting here for another Autumn salon, with more publishing credits and a longer trail of students or mentees behind us, welcoming new writers, like Elder Writespeople, into this space. And, one day, it will hold tales of skinny dipping in Silver Lake at night and me finally stepping into my own golden pond.
  • My writing room (and sometimes guest room) is coming together suddenly. Maybe about halfway finished but ready to inhabit! It has all the essentials...a simple desk with a cool, smooth marble top, bookshelves, good lighting, a bathroom, a window with blinds,a record player, a day bed to stare at the ceiling for answers, and a door...just wants cozied up with a rug and my lucky silk curtains. The DIY project begging to be done is to cover the entire wall opposite my desk with cork to plot my latest story. WDYT? And oh, yes, I found a place for my spare Nespresso machine. See ya next year! 😆👏🏻☕️🌠✍🏼
  • When you find a place where way leads to way...
  • Dubois, WY, is purportedly the most remote town in America and a favorite wide open space for my husband @claymills2 . So we made a little road trip over the pass from Jackson to wander around. It is wonderfully sleepy and windy! I kept spying perfect fly fishing spots on the Wind River figuring my Dad, an Orvis fly fishing guide, most likely fished here TOO. I need to take up the rod soon. I love finding local coffee joints and eateries. If you make it to Dubois someday, stop by Coyote Blue Coffee for a cup of nitro cold brew and The Moose Outpost for—quite possibly—the best hand cut fries I’ve ever had. Oh, and the burgers are fresh and juicy. The combo comes with their special Moose Sauce. You don’t need directions, just look for the giant moose sculpture. You know the cowboy fare is good when it comes with a side of #noregrets
  • All that glitters is Grand Teton National Park. On the trail at Colter Bay stumbling toward majesty.
  • Nothing but warm sun and a soft Wyoming breeze and this view...THIS is what I call my office today.

  • I found a literary thin place last night at The Belcourt Theater in Nashville. Watched Blaze by Director Ethan Hawke. Brilliant! Poignant. Intelligent, moody, nuanced. It is blues song poetry come to life and highly recommended. I was captivated by the conversation afterwards with Ethan Hawke (a dynamic creative!), actor Ben Dickey (compelling debut performance...didn’t we all fall in love a little?), and Charles Sexton as Townes Van Zant is riveting. Grateful to be apart of the evening. Inspiring as a working creative! @blazemovie @ethanhawke #bendickey #charlessexton #arthouse
